Jim is the transportation planner from Boulder who has worked with Winslow Tomorrow, the ferry terminal gateway design process for the City, and the SR 305 planning process.

I exchanged an email with him about what sort of group he hoped to see. He would like to show and get feedback on some possible designs for bicycle circulation and connectivity in and out of the terminal area being developed with Van Meter, Williams, Pollack. He says he mainly would like to caucus with people who are active and informed in the bicycling circle as an advance check-in. He’d appreciate advice and reaction to emerging plans. He noted that mainly we are trying to make sure local bicyclists - people who actually bicycle in Winslow - think these draft bike connections will work and meet the full range of bicyclists’ needs.

Jim will be back at a later point to share with a larger audience the possible designs which this gatering helps reality test.

There was really only this one time when he was free and a room was available. He made a point of asking for such a preliminary consultation, despite having to take an early evening plane.

A hardy group of volunteers completed more than half of the work putting in native plants purchased by the City on recommendation by the COBI Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Committee. This restoration of our “green infrastructure” will not only improve the environment and aesthetics which Islanders value, but also help us all drive closer to the posted speed.

Please join us if you can to help plant the 400 natives which will be arriving that morning. COBI Operations & Maintenance staff have already delivered 7 yards of fresh chips to use as mulch. We would love to get as many as possible in the ground that day to take advantage of the winter rain to get established before summer draught.

In October of last year, ferns were salvaged from the Chaffey Project on Springridge, and replanted in the cut on New Brooklyn between the bus barn and Sportsman Road. This was a wonderful collaboration of a number of groups.

Now we are about to follow through with planting a variety on native plants as part of this year’s workplan for the Non-Motorized Transportation Advisory Committee, collaborating with these same groups.

I took this photo at the intersection of Finch & Wyatt. Part of the reason I chose it is that the cyclist is taking care to look for cars before making the turn.

I also like the way the cyclist is silhouetted so the action is easy to grasp.
